Good Sunday evening everyone! Well, it is official. Punxsutawney Phil has predicted 6 more weeks of winter, and I do agree with his prediction this year! This upcoming week will be a transition week as the weather pattern battles between warm, southerly air and cold, northerly air bringing a wide range of temperatures. In the middle, we will likely deal with a significant winter storm bringing snow, sleet, and ice Wednesday evening into Thursday. Read below for more details!

Monday (2/3) – The beginning of the week will be a mild one. Temperatures will range from the low-40s to upper-50s, with the Pittsburgh region closing in on the 60-degree mark. Expect a mix of sun and clouds, making for a wonderful afternoon!
Tuesday (2/4) – A cold front will slide through the region, bringing an end to our brief spring-like warmth. Temperatures will range from the upper-20s to upper-30s with a mix of sun and clouds. Not too bad of a day, but a lot cooler than Monday!
Wednesday (2/5) – We will begin to see some impacts of our upcoming storm system. High temperatures will range from the upper-20s to upper-30s. Snow showers will begin to move into portions of south-central and central Pennsylvania during the mid-afternoon hours, bringing possible light accumulations of up to an inch or so. By 7-8pm, precipitation and warmer air will begin to flood northward, changing locations of snow to sleet/freezing rain. Much of central and northern Pennsylvania will deal with an ice storm during the overnight hours on Wednesday. Expect treacherous travel Wednesday evening and overnight across the affected winter weather regions. Areas in the ‘Moderate’ and ‘High’ categories will see the greatest impacts in terms of ice accumulations. Stay tuned for updates regarding this storm on social media!

Thursday (2/6) – Active weather day. Expect treacherous travel Thursday morning across the affected winter weather regions. Heavy icing will continue across much of central and northern Pennsylvania through around noon before all locations change over to rain. With warm air flooding in from the southern regions, high temperatures will range from the low-40s to upper-50s, with the warmest locations across southern Pennsylvania. Scattered showers will continue throughout the day before moving out by the evening.
Friday (2/7) – Quieter and cooler day. High temperatures will range from the upper-20s to low-40s with mostly cloudy skies. A few lake effect snow showers cannot be ruled out across far northwestern Pennsylvania, although minimal impacts are currently expected.
EARLY LOOK AT NEXT WEEKEND – Another wintry mess is expected Saturday afternoon through early Sunday morning. This storm will likely bring another range of impacts from accumulating snowfall to sleet and freezing rain. I will have more updates regarding this storm throughout the week as well. Stay tuned!
